The World Baseball Classic‘s opening rounds are split into four pools in four different cities. As part of his Around the World in 80 Sporting Events project, host Doug Hill, wanted to experience it outside the confines of the Continental U.S. Having been to Tokyo for baseball in May 2025, Doug chose Pool A in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he and travel mate, Justin Byrd, were able to watch a trio of games (seeing all five teams from Pool A) over 24 hours. The highlight, by a wide margin, was host Puerto Rico vs. Cuba game (won by the hosts, 4-1) where there was a definite Latin feel in the soldout Hiram Bithorn Stadium. These are Doug and Justin’s reflections.
