Season 3, Episode 19 – Tom Stanton Conversations with Sports Fans

In this episode we're joined by Detroit-based journalist Tom Stanton. Tom's been a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers as well as history which led him to author five works of historical sports (primarily baseball) non-fiction: Terror in the City of Champions: The true story of the Black Legion, a terrorist organization that flourished in Detroit as the city experienced unparalleled sports success. The Final Season: This memoir of the last year at Tiger Stadium won the Casey Award for best baseball book of the year. Ty and the Babe: A finalist for a Quill Award, "Ty and The Babe" takes readers into the heart of the rivalry (and later-in-life friendship) of two of baseball's most legendary stars. The Road to Cooperstown: Chronicles a pilgrimage to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It's a magical tale of fathers, brothers, and baseball heroes. Hank Aaron and the Home Run that Changed America: This recollection penetrates the myth of Hank Aaron's chase and uncovers the compelling story behind the most consequential athletic achievement of the past fifty years. During our discussion Tom shares how he became infected with the sports bug, where he finds his inspiration for his books, and how sports inpact our lives, especially generationally.
