I find it nearly incomprehensible that what began almost four years ago as an earnest way to bring myself a little weekly joy by talking sports with family and friends and the occasional stranger is first, still occurring nearly four years later and second, afforded me the opportunity to have 266 such Conversations with people from – literally! – all over the world.
And, amazingly, just last week Conversations topped 10,000 total listens which, if you’re The Daily or Pod Save America or The Joe Rogan Experience, is a mediocre episode’s worth. If you’re some fella on a laptop with Bose earbuds and microphone in a basement studio in Southeast Michigan, well …
Couple the listenership milestone with Conversations with Sports Fans‘ impending fourth birthday (June 9, 2022) and that’s as good a reason to celebrate as any.
Which is exactly what I aim to do over the next week!
For starters, we’re going to count down (or is it up?) the top four most-listened-to episodes in the show’s history. The equivalent of our final four, I suppose;-) We’ll first feature the episode currently in fourth place along with a little background on the episode, how it came to be, its guest, and why I believe it’s been listened to so frequently. Then third, second, and first.
You’ll also hear this week’s regularly scheduled episode that features a fabulous Pittsburgh-area artist, Kim Fox, who recently completed a major job for the NFL. In addition to be an amazing artisan, Kim’s also a sensational storyteller and, as such, I belive you’ll really enjoy hearing her story.
Finally, birthday week will culminate with a special episode of Conversations that features a panel of previous guests who discuss what it’s like to be a sports fan in the year 2026.
