Thitikul reclaimed the top spot in early August and held the ranking heading into this week’s season-ending CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, FL. Incidentally, over the past four years, Thitikul is a combined 50-under par at this course. And, by the way, she’s also the defending champion.
A native of Thailand, Thitikul doesn’t yet appear on many lists of most famous Thai athletes in history (that is generally considered Muay Thai fighter Buakaw Banchamek or Taekwondo’s Panipak “Tennis” Wongpattanakit [the nation’s most-decorated Olympian]), but if the 22-year-old Thitikul continues to perform as she has since joining the LPGA Tour in 2022, she’s bound to climb the ranks and become a household name throughout the nation.
