J. J. Spaun bogeyed five of his first six holes during the U.S. Open Golf Championship at Pennsylvania’s Oakmont Country Club and seemingly shot his way out of contention. But along came an hour and a half weather delay and Spaun (after some real talk with members of his team) returned to the course playing an entirely different game.
And then – on the 18th green, leading by a single shot over Robert MacIntyre (who’d already finished) – he took aim at a 64-foot birdie putt needing only to 2-putt to secure the win. And then, his monster putt did the unthinkable … it fell to the bottom of the cup and Spaun went into celebration mode after securing his first-ever Major Championship. On Father’s Day with his father and his daughters in the gallery to witness history.

Just to review, The Fan Teaser was the creation of former Ann Arbor News Sports Editor Geoff Larcom. Longtime friend and fellow Ann Arbor News alum, Pat Schutte, took it to heights previously unknown. We aim to keep it alive here at The Sports Fan Project. The cropped photo and the accompanying clue give you an idea as to who or what the image is of. We invite you to use the Comment option to take a crack at solving the Teaser and, if you’re so inclined, participate in some good-spirited banter with your fellow sports fans. The Fan Teaser will appear each Friday morning with the reveal coming to you Sunday.
