The Fan Teaser: Week 114 Solution

It’s the final Fan Teaser of 2024 so why not bust out one of the most-viewed
sports photos of the year. What’s going on in this image?

Imagery – sports imagery, in particular – has always been a fascination of ours. It seems somewhat apropos to use one of the most iconic images of 2024 as the final Fan Teaser of the year.

In this photo, Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina is captured by French photographer Jerome Brouillet at the precise moment the surfer is celebrating riding a big wave during the 2024 Summer Olympic surfing competition in Tahiti. Medina went on to claim a Bronze Medal. Here is the NBC Universal’s coverage of Medina’s ride.

Of course, this is but one of many fabulous sports shots captured during the 2024 calendar year. Here are links to those adjudicated by Getty Images, the Associated Press, and yahoo!sports to be some of the best from this year.

Just to review, The Fan Teaser was the creation of former Ann Arbor News Sports Editor Geoff Larcom. Longtime friend and fellow Ann Arbor News alum, Pat Schutte, took it to heights previously unknown. We aim to keep it alive here at The Sports Fan Project. The cropped photo and the accompanying clue give you an idea as to who or what the image is of. We invite you to use the Comment option to take a crack at solving the Teaser and, if you’re so inclined, participate in some good-spirited banter with your fellow sports fans. The Fan Teaser will appear each Friday morning with the reveal coming to you Sunday.
