Doug first met Tim Parker in the newsroom of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. He was a news writer and Doug was in the sports department, but it was pretty apparent Tim was also a big sports fan. In an unusual twist, both Doug and Tim moved away from life as journalists to become educators. They reconnected nearly 20 years after first meeting as leaders of the National Education Association. Tim grew up in the Seattle area and, by far the coolest story he shared, was going with a group of friends on the city busses to the Seattle SuperSonics 1979 championship parade. We’re guessing that would not happen today.
