Conversations with Sports Fans – S1, E30: Erv Inniger

North Dakota State University Logo

Erv is the younger cousin of Fred Inniger (Episode 20) and a friend of Doug’s father, Jerry (Episode 2). Erv was one of the standouts on Berne (IN) HS’s basketball teams in the early 1960s and eventually matriculated to Indiana University where he played both basketball and baseball for the Hoosiers. Erv recalls his days playing for IU as well as the opportunity presented to continue basketball professionally thanks to the advent of the American Basketball Association. He spent two years as a pro player and eventually moved into coaching. He shares recollections of his time on the bench at North Dakota State University (still the winningest coach) as well as carving out the time to watch his own sons play – including one who played for Erv at NDSU. He also discusses many of the friendships he’s curated in the world of sports during his life.
