The Fan Teaser: Week 158 Solution

It’s wild how this wound up as this week’s #FanTeaser, right?

You saw this one coming at you like a Mitch Williams heater, correct?

It seemed only fitting with the Toronto Blue Jays back in Ontario and an opportunity to claim their first World Series Championship since 1993, that’s we’d feature Joe Carter – who’s still not paying for a meal in Toronto 32 years later, we’re sure – and his dramatic Series walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth off Williams, the Philadelphia Phillies’ closer.

Toronto was having its way with the Phillies much of Game 6, jumping starter Terry Mulholland for three in the bottom of the first and adding single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 5-1 lead with workhorse starter Dave Stewart dealing for the Jays.

Philadelphia scored six runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a Lenny Dykstra 3-run homer, to take a 6-5 lead and set the stage for Carter’s heroics.

With one out and Baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson on second and fellow HoFer Paul Molitor on first, Carter deposited the 2-2 pitch from Williams deep into left field and an 8-6 Blue Jays‘ win.

This highlight package of Joe Carter’s homer features the ABC Sports call with Sean McDonough and the Blue Jays’ radio call featuring Tom Cheek. There’s even some post-game interview action with ABC’s Tim McCarver.

Just to review, The Fan Teaser was the creation of former Ann Arbor News Sports Editor Geoff Larcom. Longtime friend and fellow Ann Arbor News alum, Pat Schutte, took it to heights previously unknown. We aim to keep it alive here at The Sports Fan Project. The cropped photo and the accompanying clue give you an idea as to who or what the image is of. We invite you to use the Comment option to take a crack at solving the Teaser and, if you’re so inclined, participate in some good-spirited banter with your fellow sports fans. The Fan Teaser will appear each Friday morning with the reveal coming to you Sunday.
