Conversations with Sports Fans – Josh Harrellson

There seated across from on my Delta flight from Tokyo to Detroit was a big, big man. It became obvious from a conversation he was having with another tall fella and his family one row in front of us that each of them were heading home from playing professional basketball in Japan.

When the opportunity for small talk presented itself, I engaged. It turns out the man sitting to my left was Josh Harrellson a name that I didn’t immediately recognize. A little in-flight sleuthly led me to discover he was a 1-time Kentucky Wildcat and led Big Blue Nation to a Final Four in Coach John Calipari‘s second season.

As we began deplaning, I explained what I’m doing as a retired educator – blogging, podcasting, sports travel – and asked if he was game for a podcast appearance. He was!

We met at a Rochester, MI, landmark: Lipuma’s Coney Island. Before embarking on a feast of foods neither of us had any business eating, we had a lovely Conversation along the Paint Creek on a picnic table out back.

Enjoy!
