My View of the 2022 World Cup

As I type this we’re two-thirds of the way through Group Stage play at the 2022 Men’s World Cup and I’ve actually watched (and listened!) to a good amount of the Group Stages. I credit (or blame) Ted Lasso for my increased interest in what’s known as “the beautiful game.”

While the matches have, by and large, been entertaining, simply seeing and listening to the crowds has been a large part of the enjoyment for me. That, plus the fact that for two weeks straight I’m able to awaken and tune into a major sporting event, has made for an enjoyable opening nine days for me.

By far, however, the coolest story I’ve encountered so far has been that of the Japanese fans and the team, cleaning their sections and/or the locker room following their matches. And the fact it seems to be contagious is simply sublime!

And, as we eluded to others are getting catching the fever. Even the French – yes, the French! – fans have gotten into the act.

Now for an American victory in its final Group Stage match to give me something more to tune in for when the Round of 16 begins this weekend.
