Evel Knievel was about as American as a Thanksgiving meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing followed by Black Friday shopping. His bones were likely broken more times than those in that holiday bird carcass. Or that fellow shopper who’s going for the final item on the shelf you’re looking to score.
Born Robert Craig Knievel in Butte, MT, in 1938, legend says he went by Evel after spending a night in jail in Butte with someone nicknamed, Awful Knofel so he changed is moniker but didn’t want to be considered “Evil.” While had many successful jumps he also had many epic failures, including the New Year’s Eve attempted jump of Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas which is featured in the clip below.
